Union Roads and Highways Minister Nitin Gadkari on Friday gave his approval to the final alignment of the earlier announced Amritsar-Delhi Expressway after holding a joint meeting with Punjab Deputy Chief Minister Sukhbir Singh Badal and Haryana Chief Minister Manohar Lal Khattar.

Expressing joy over the approval, Badal said, "The Delhi-Amritsar Expressway will reduce around 100 km between the two cities and the journey will take only around fours hours. They have approved the final alignment and we are very happy about it."

"They have also given approval for the Jalandhar-Ajmer Expressway, which will boost trade in Haryana, Punjab, Himachal and Jammu and will ease the traffic and will also reduce the distance till Bombay by two hours," he said.

The Haryana Chief Minister also echoed similar sentiments saying, "Both the states have agreed over the alignment of the Delhi-Amritsar expressway . Soon the proposal will be sent to the Centre for nod."

Gadkari had announced the construction of Rs 60,000 crore Amritsar-Delhi expressway last month. The foundation of the expressway, which will run up to Katra in Jammu, will be laid in January 2017.
