A lake that inspired William Wordsworth to write poetry is up for sale on eBay.

Esthwaite Water, between Windermere and Coniston Water in Cumbria, covering 280 acres is the world's first lake to be offered on the online auction site, Metro.co.uk reported.

Owner Nigel Woodhouse explained that the literary and natural importance of the lake will likely attract international audience.

The lake also attracts leisure seekers for trout fishing and boating and even Beatrix Potter fans for the licensed nature trail to her former Hill Top home.
