Sri Lanka's stand-in captain Upul Tharanga has been suspended for the next two matches of his team in the ongoing ICC Champions Trophy because of an over-rate offence in the first Group B encounter of the tournament played at the Kennington Oval here on Saturday.
The members of the Sri Lankan team have each been fined 60 percent of their match fee.
Sri Lanka took more than four hours to bowl 50 overs. Match referee David Boon ruled they were short of the target by four overs, even after making time allowances.
Earlier on Saturday, leg-spinner Imran Tahir produced a match-winning performance to help South Africa rout Sri Lanka by a massive margin of 96 runs in the match.
Tahir, who missed two of the three ODIs against England last month due to injury, took four wickets.
Sri Lanka were shot out for 203 runs with 8.3 overs remaining. Tharanga top scored with 57 runs.
