The locals in Kolkata faced a lot of problems this morning due to the 24-hour shutdown call by the Left Party and its central trade unions to protest against violence and vote loot by activists of the ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC) in the recently concluded Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC) elections.

"There was no bus today morning and I had to take an auto to take my children to school. The school is open, but no teachers have reached. Even the headmistress was not there. I do not support this kind of 'bandh'. What sort of a 'bandh' is this? There is no sense in this kind of a strike," said Rajkishore Raut, a local.

"There are other ways to protest. This kind of a strike is not right. My bus has still not arrived and I have been waiting since 10 minutes," said Keshto Thakur, another local.

This is the first general strike called by the Left trade unions and Left parties in the state in last four years.
