LS Polls: Bollywood biggies get their fingers inked

Bollywood stars cast their vote here on Thursday during the sixth phase of general elections.

After casting his vote, Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan said, "I think, everybody talks about voting as our right and that it is a celebration of democracy, though it is true, but I think right to vote means right to dignity. So, when you look at it, you will find that it amalgamates a lot of things."

Bollywood's first family, the Bachchans, also got their fingers inked. Actor Amitabh Bachchan, who was accompanied by son Abhishek Bachchan, daughter-in-law Aishwarya Rai Bachchan and wife Jaya Bachchan, cast his vote.

Other Bollywood celebrities like Rishi Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Preity Zinta, veteran lyricist Gulzar also cast their votes.

Polling is underway for the sixth phase of Lok Sabha elections. Voting is taking place for 117 constituencies spread over 11 states and one union territory.

These are - all 39 seats in Tamil Nadu, 19 in Maharashtra, 12 in Uttar Pradesh, 10 in Madhya Pradesh, seven each in Bihar and Chhattisgarh, six each in Assam and West Bengal, five in Rajasthan, four in Jharkhand and one each in Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Puducherry.

Voting commenced amid tight security at 7 a.m., and will end at 6 p.m.

In Uttar Pradesh, 167 candidates are in the fray for 12 seats. Chief Electoral Officer Umesh Sinha said, 504 polling centres will be under direct observation through Web casting.
