Congress leader Meem Afzal on Thursday criticised the Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Culture and Tourism Mahesh Sharma for his unwarranted comment on the Dadri incident.
"I don't understand what is wrong with the Cultural Minister. First, he made comments about APJ Abdul Kalam, saying that Kalam was a patriot even though he was a Muslim. By making such comments, he is encouraging such incidents," Afzal said.
Sharma had earlier urged the Opposition to not give a communal angle to the Dadri incident, in which a man was killed over alleged rumours that his family consumed and stored beef in their house.
"It is very unfortunate that when the Opposition does not have any point to make, they bring this kind of thing. This should not be given a communal angle. I believe this incident took place due to some misunderstandings and should not be given a political colour," Sharma said.
