Raising the issue of making medicines available for the poor at discounted prices in stores across India, Telangana Rashtra Samithi (TRS) MP K. Kavitha on Tuesday requested the Centre to allow the state governments to outsource medicine from private pharmaceuticals companies to match the target.

"Cost of medicine is good and quality too but volume is short as it doesn't reach to the needy due to the shortage. The reason is because the Government of India is trying to manufacture the medicines under the brand name of "Pradhanmantri Jan Aushadhi Yojna". In Telangana, there is no medicine supply store. Needy goes to the Jan Aushadhi medical shops but they don't get the medicine as its not available most of the time," she told the Lok Sabha.

"The Government of India should allow the state governments to outsource the medicine from private pharmaceuticals companies, who manufacture generic medicine," she added.

Talking to the media later, she said it is not only the people of Telangana who are suffering but other states also face problems.

"I would suggest that they should also come forward for their people and their welfare. It will be the one of its kind combined initiation of the state and the Central Government," she added.
