The Prime Minister, Dr. Manmohan Singh, will inaugurate the conference of Chief Ministers on 'internal security' here on Wednesday.

Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde will deliver the opening address on the occasion.

The participants will review internal security situation in the country during the daylong conference. Police Reforms, capacity building, strengthening of counter terrorism capabilities and intelligence apparatus, National Counter Terrorism Centre (NCTC) and focus on ongoing and new initiatives will be on the agenda.

Other issues to be deliberated upon include Crime and Criminal Tracking Network and System (CCTNS), issues related to Left Wing Extremism (LWE), border management, coastal security and other Centre-State issues.

A separate session will deal with LWE issues with the Chief Ministers of Naxal- affected states.

The conference takes place just days after the audacious attack by the Maoists on a Congress convoy in Chhattisgarh's Bastar District.

Heavily-armed Maoists had on May 25 ambushed a convoy of Congress leaders in Bastar district, killing 28 people including PCC chief Nand Kumar Patel, his son Dinesh, Congress leader Mahendra Karma and ex-MLA Uday Mudliyar.

Former Union Minister V.C. Shukla injured in the attack is being treated at a Medanta hospital in Gurgaon. His condition is stated to be critical, but stable.
