With an aim to spread awareness among people to encourage them to exercise their voting right, a marathon was organised in Amritsar in on Sunday.
The marathon race saw maximum participation of youngsters from Amritsar.
One of the organisers of marathon, Ravi Bhagat, said around thousand young people participated in the race.
"Today we have organised a marathon with a mission to create voter awareness. We are organising this marathon to motivate young voters aged between 18 and 19 in Amritsar. Around thousand young voters are participating in it. Our message is that they should utilise their voting rights and come out and vote," said Bhagat.
Moreover, a young female participant from Amritsar, Sneha Rana said the motive of the marathon is to make the youth realise their voting rights to come out and participate in the democratic process.
"We want to convey a message through the marathon that the youngsters must know about their voting rights and hence choose their government. And by doing this we could show that it's our right and we are entitled to choose our own government," said Rana.
The Deputy Commissioner of Income Tax Department in Amritsar and one of the organisers of the marathon, Navdeep Kaur, informed about the efforts made in this regard.
"Through this, first we organised seminars in schools, we have also put up hoardings across the city. We pasted around 15,000 stickers on vehicles, distributed around 20,000 hand bills, we are also releasing a video CD of a motivational Punjabi song for the youth, asking them to realise their right to vote and vote honestly for the candidate of their choice in order to usher in a good government. The audio CD of this song was already released," said Kaur.
The organisers also provided rebate on meals in a city restaurant for the marathon participants.
