New Zealand Test cricket legend Martin Crowe has backed his nation's current squad to meet South Africa in the final of the ICC Cricket World Cup 2015 and has urged Brendon McCullum's side to take a fearless approach to the tournament.
Crowe, who masterminded New Zealand's semifinal run at the 1992 tournament in the nation, gave his thoughts as New Zealand prepares to co-host the latest edition with Australia next month.
Expressing excitement at New Zealand's prospects, Crowe also picked Australia as a title favourite but felt that McCullum's side and South Africa were capable of finally breaking their World Cup title ducks, Stuff.co.nz reported.
Crowe claimed that he is picking a New Zealand versus South Africa final, insisting that that is his gut feeling, with South Africa due as well.
He insisted that New Zealand is going to win the tournament one day and added that they are pretty good at home.
Crowe insisted that the fielding has to be top-notch, and that seems to be coming right, adding that he feels the best fielding side in the world would win the World Cup.
Crowe lauded New Zealand, who have made giant strides over the past year, saying that he has been thoroughly impressed for a long time now, probably from the first day last summer when Ross Taylor and McCullum got hundreds.
Crowe said that Taylor and McCullum have led the team well, adding that the amount of doubles and triples being scored at the moment is testament to the quality they have. He further said that the bowling, the fielding, the coaching staff, and selection has all been very consistent.
Crowe further said that they have removed any fear, so he expects a fearless side running out there for the World Cup.
