Mayank Gandhi dubs dissolution of AAP's Maharashtra unit 'unfortunate'

Expressing his displeasure over the dissolution of the Aam Aadmi Party in Maharashtra, party's national executive member Mayank Gandhi on Thursday said his party needs to introspect and go in for course correction.

Reprimanding AAP's Political Affairs Committee for disbanding the Maharashtra unit, Gandhi said, "I am not very comfortable with working of this kind of high-command structure, where they sit down in Delhi and completely dissolve the Maharashtra team. The Maharashtra team is not just Mumbai."

Terming the decision "unfortunate", he said, "Imagine, people have left their jobs and have been working like crazy. Suddenly, one team sits in Delhi and without having understanding of the dynamics of Mumbai or Maharashtra, and just going by certain prejudices and the high command structure, removes them completely."

When asked that the order to disband the Maharashtra unit came from the PAC and not the so-called high command, Gandhi said the PAC was constituted of seven-eight members from Delhi and its vicinity, who had no clue about Maharashtra. "They should have sent a team of observer's committee for 15-20 days, who would have gone across Maharashtra and listen to volunteers, their problems and issues. And then, the party should have reviewed the committee's report, rather than dissolving the unit like this," said Gandhi.

"Nobody had come, except Pankaj Gupta. He came here, travelled two districts and went back. Gupta told me that he was very happy with Maharashtra and Mumbai, as the best work in all over the country was done here. And then, he went back and dissolved the unit by just putting a notice on the website. If this is not high command culture, then what is that," Gandhi sought to know.
