Conor McGregor, the reigning UFC lightweight champion, has vowed to shock the boxing world by defeating unbeaten American Floyd Mayweather in a potential fight, whose deal the former claims is 'very close' to being confirmed.

The speculations of a super-fight between the UFC champion and the undefeated boxer arose after Mayweather recently stated that he was 'coming out of retirement' solely for the match up.

Speaking in Liverpool on the latest leg of his UK tour, Mayweather had said, "For Conor McGregor. I'm coming out of retirement just to fight Conor McGregor. Simple and plain, let's fight in June."

Reflecting on the potential match, McGregor said that he is fully geared up for bout before confirming that the duo is very close to ink the deal.

"Everybody's writing me off, but they're going to be in shock, make no mistake about it. I'm ready, I'm looking forward to it, I'm excited, and I'm prepared," mirror.co.uk quoted McGregor as saying.

"We're very close to inking it; I'm not going to say no more, we're very close that's it," he added.

Widely regarded as the poster boy for UFC, McGregor is the first fighter in the sports history to become champion in two different weight divisions at the same time in 2016.

Mayweather retired from professional boxing with a perfect 49-0 record after comprehensively defeating Andre Berto in September.
