Paramilitary personnel today recovered 61 silver coins of the Mughal era from Kanpur's cantonment area containing Arabic and Persian inscriptions.
Army official CP Bhadola confirmed the report saying that they got the information from a saint of a temple who told them that some digging is going on in the area and the kids are taking out coins from there.
"61 silver coins have been found here which belong to the bygone era. We have taken them in our custody and tomorrow morning, a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI), our senior official and the civil administration staff will come and then only further investigation will be carried out," said Bhadola.
The area has been cordoned off by the army because when the news about the coins spread, local residents started rushing to the area.
Tomorrow, after the arrival of the ASI team, further digging will be carried out as it is being predicted that more such coins could be recovered.
