A delegation of BJP leaders led by former deputy chief minister R. Ashok met Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara here today over the murder of a Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) worker in Mysuru, which led to widespread protests in the city.
Home Minister Parameshwara dubbed the incident as 'unfortunate' and assured the BJP delegation that the state government would initiate apt and timely action in this regard.
"It is an unfortunate incident. We have taken it very seriously. We will nab the culprits as early as possible. Mysuru has now become peaceful. I have appealed to the people to maintain law and order," he said.
BJP leader Suresh Kumar earlier urged the state government to act swiftly on this case and nab the culprits at the earliest.
"These things are repeatedly happening in Karnataka. It happened in Dakshina Kannada (South Canara), it happened in Kodagu (Coorg) and now it is happening in Mysuru. The appeasement policy practiced by this government is the root cause of all this," he told ANI here.
"The Karnataka Government should now come to senses and take necessary action. the state and the police should show their intolerance against these events," he added.
The BJP's Mysuru unit had yesterday called for a shutdown in the city following the murder of VHP worker Raju.
The BJP and VHP activists staged protests and raised slogans demanding the culprits' arrest.
The Mysuru Police had imposed prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC after the activist was murdered on M.G. Road in Udayagiri Police station limits on Sunday.
The security has been beefed up in Udayagiri and the surrounding areas of Kyathmaranhalli in anticipation of a communal flare up.
