Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) prime ministerial candidate and Gujarat Chief Minister Narendra Modi boosted confidence of the participants, as he flagged off Sabarmati Marathon 2014 here today.

The fourth edition of Sabarmati Marathon was organised by the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) that chose a route passing through high-class residential localities.

Encouraging the participants, Modi said when people stand united and match their foot steps any target can be easily accomplished.

"I believe when we match footsteps we can match minds and when we have similar minds then it becomes easy to achieve the target," he added.

According to media reports over 19,000 runners have joined the marathon, which will come to its end at the Sardar Patel Stadium at Navarangpura.

Throughout the last three editions, the route of the marathon has been strategically placed in order to highlight the places depicting the development and heritage of Ahmedabad city.

The first edition saw the runners passing through some of the old and historic monuments of the city, while the second edition passed through the S. G. Highway route which was then newly constructed and in the third edition the runners passed through the city's S. P. Ring Road area where then major development was taking place.
