A car driver was severely injured after being hit by a train at an unmanned railway crossing in Laljhuri region of Tripura.
The Agartala-bound train had a head-on collision with the car while the driver was trying to cross the railway track.
Binoy Debnath, an eyewitness, blamed the absence of a gate at the crossing for the accident.
"The absence of railing and gate is the prime reason behind repeated occurrence of accidents in this spot. Earlier also there has been such accident but the authority is not setting any gate here. Beside domestic animals are dying and few vehicles also had narrow escape," said Debnath
The villagers said that the occurrence of accidents at this particular crossing is not uncommon and demanded the railway authorities to install a gate along with signals in order to stop accidents.
Meantime the driver of the vehicle Abdul Hamid Chowdhury was admitted in the local hospital at Panisagar. He is in critical condition.
