Nepal's Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Krishna Bahadur Mahara on Monday left for a two-day official visit to China in an attempt by the new leadership to bolster ties between the two nations.
Mahara's visit is part of Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal led-government's decision to send him as special envoy to inform the leadership in Beijing of the formation of the new government and the latest political development in Nepal.
Prior to his departure, Mahara said that his China visit was aimed at further developing and expanding relations between both sides.
"I am leaving for China to strengthen relations with China in the changed political context following the formation of the new government. We expect China's support to build good ties between Nepal and China and Chinese political leaders to visit Nepal," the Kathmandu Post quoted Mahara as saying.
Mahara also pledged to carry on and implement the agreements struck between the Chinese Government and former prime minister K.P. Sharma Oli-led government.
