Nepalese authorities turned out to be stricter, as it is now going to charge a hefty fine of Nepalese Rupee (NPR) 5000 if the public transport charges a rupee more than the determined fare.
The Department of Transport Management has appealed to travellers and passengers to inform the government authorities about any such irregularities. The complaints can now be filed by mentioning the registration number of the vehicle after calling into the helpline numbers of the Department.
The department spokesperson Gokarna Prasad Upadhyaya said that the monitoring will be carried out if the transport operators are charging in excess.
As per the latest increment on September 23, the transport fare in buses is NPR 14 for up to four kilometres, NPR 16 up to five kilometres, NPR 17 up to six kilometres, NPR 26 up to 19 kilometres and NPR 27 for 19 kilometres and above. It applies in Kathmandu valley and local routes.
Likewise, the complaints can also be registered through toll-free numbers and in the department's website. In the district level, the complaints can be filed through all the 77 district administration offices or nearby traffic police offices.
Furthermore, Nepali Police toll-free numbers can be used to register complaints about irregularities in pre-booking of bus and air tickets for upcoming Dashain festival and also about charging of exorbitant fares.
