A new app reportedly promises to reduce stress in just 25 minutes with a simple mobile game.
Personal Zen for iOS has been clinically proven to reduce stress as the development team behind the app itself consists of leading neuroscientists and mobile developers.
According to Cnet, the research that backs the app, published in Clinical Psychological Science, suggests that attention-bias modification training, the kind provided by Personal Zen, can lower anxiety levels.
The cognitive treatment for anxiety called attention-bias modification training (ABMT), involves training patients to ignore a threatening stimulus (such as an angry face) and to focus instead on a non-threatening stimulus (such as a neutral or happy face).
The report said that the Personal Zen game shows a grassy green field where two blue faces appear briefly, one happy, one angry, which then bury themselves in the grass.
A line of taller grass sprouts from where the happy face dug its hole; a user is required to quickly trace that line with their finger, in an attempt to train the brain to focus on the non-threatening stimulus (happy face).
Although the app description says to play the game for at least 15-30 minutes, the research indicates you need 25 minutes to get the full benefits, the report added.
