Major political parties of Nepal on Sunday briefed President Bidya Devi Bhandari about their efforts to form a national consensus government within the allotted time frame.

President Bhandari had on Monday called all the parties represented in the Parliament to form the consensus government based on common understanding, reports the Himalayan Times.

Just hours before the expiry of the deadline, senior leaders of major political parties, including outgoing Prime Minister and Communist Party of Nepal -Unified Marxist-Leninist (CPN-UML) chairman K.P. Sharma Oli, Nepali Congress president Sher Bahadur Deuba, Communist Party of Nepal- Maoist Centre(CPN-MC) chairperson Pushpa Kamal Dahal, Rastriya Prajatantra Party-Nepal chairman Kamal Thapa and Madhesi Janaadhikar Forum-Democratic chairman Bijay Kumar Gachhadar called on President Bhandari at her office in Sheetal Niwas.

Reports suggest the leaders of various parties told Bhandari that they were not in a position to form consensus to form the government and requested her to make a fresh call for the majority government so that the Parliament can begin the election process.

Meanwhile, Jibachha Sah, Personal Secretary of the President, who also looks after public relations, said that Bhandari has urged the political leaders to make more efforts to form a consensus government.

He added that Bhandari is likely to give the political leaders a time frame to form a majority government on Monday.
