Former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and National Conference leader Omar Abdullah on Monday expressed his condolences over the demise of former President A.P.J Abdul Kalam.
Abdullah took it to his Twitter page to say, "Dr Kalam had many fans in J&K, especially amongst the youth in Kashmir which in itself was no small feat. Rest in peace sir & Godspeed."
He added "Distinctly recall when Dr Kalam became president two questions plagued Central Govt - will he wear a bandgala & will he change hairstyle. He happily agreed to the bandgalas but categorically refused to change the unique hairstyle. He was his own person to the very end."
Kalam passed away in Shillong earlier today after he was admitted to a hospital in the city.
The former president collapsed during a lecture at the Indian Institute of Management. He was in a critical condition and had been admitted to the city's Bethany Hospital.
Kalam served as the 11th President on India from 2002 to 2007.
