One held with Rs 24 lakh in foreign currency

The customs department on Thursday seized foreign currency equivalent to Rs 24,89,375 from a Dubai-bound passenger at the Indira Gandhi International Airport here.

The officers intercepted the passenger on February 14 on the basis of specific intelligence, informed Dr Amandeep Singh, the additional commissioner of customs.

The recovered currency was seized under section 110 of Customs Act, 1962 and the accused was arrested under section 104 of the said act.

Further investigation is underway.
