Police officials have killed one Maoist in an encounter in Odisha's Bargarh district yesterday. .
According to police, a Maoist training camp was underway in Bargarh district which was aiming to attack a newly established Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) camps and civilians.
A joint operation was conducted by the Bargarh district police, CRPF and Special Operations Group (SOG) in forest areas resulting in a gun battle.
Superintendent of Police (SP) of Bargarh Anup Krishna said: "While we were climbing up a hill to conduct an operation, we were fired at from the Maoist camp. To protect ourselves, we shot at the Maoists. After an hour when we searched the area, we found the body of a 25-years-old male Maoist. A rifle, cartridges, kit bag, explosives and a lot of other things have been found from the area."
Meanwhile, joint operation by CRPF, STF (Special Task Force) and district police in Bihar's Gaya district was a success after a huge cache of ammunition was nabbed from a Maoist camp in Pathlotia forests in the area.
"We have received success in a three-day joint operation by CRPF, STF and Gaya police. We have recovered around 31 hand grenades, a few fuses and a cane bomb weighing 20 kilograms, which was like an explosive," said Senior Superintendent of Police (SP) Nishant Tiwari.
Encouraged by the success, the police authorities said that they would continue to carry out such operations.
The Maoists, who are considered to be India's greatest internal security threat, have of late intensified their operations in Andhra Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Jharkhand, Bihar and some areas of West Bengal.
