Finance Minister Arun Jaitley on Monday said the annual revision of pension as demanded by the One Rank One Pension (OROP) protestors is not possible, but assured that Centre would safeguard the interests of the defence personnel retiring at an early age.
"I have my own formula on what OROP means. Somebody else may have their own formula on OROP but it has to be within reasonable and rational criteria. You can't have an OROP where pensions are revised every month or every year," Jaitley told ET NOW.
One Rank, One Pension (OROP) scheme has been a long-standing demand of nearly three-million ex-servicemen and war widows in the country. It seeks to ensure that a uniform pension is paid to defence personnel, who retire at the same rank with the same length of service irrespective of their date of retirement.
