Pakistan's Jang media group has reportedly apologized to the country's much feared Inter-Services Intelligence agency (ISI) for blaming the agency of the attack on journalist Hamid Mir.

Jang group's Geo TV had aired accusations by Mir and his family that the ISI was behind the attack.

According to the BBC, the group's newspapers carried front page adverts in Jang and The News, two of Pakistan's leading newspapers, calling its coverage "excessive, distressful and emotional".

The apology read that the Jang group wants to categorically state that it has the greatest regard and respect for the armed forces of Pakistan and its leadership, adding that it was never the group's intention to malign or offend any institution or person.

Meanwhile, observers say that the apology is an attempt by the group to pacify the military which has complained against Geo TV to Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA) and is pressing for the channel to be banned.

The country's media regulator is set to consider the ISI's complaint against Geo on Wednesday, the report said.
