Pakistan amends constitution to set up military courts

Pakistan's National Assembly has adopted the 21st Constitutional Amendment aimed to set up military courts that will try civilian terrorist suspects, said the National Assembly speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq.

According to Dawn News, members of the National Assembly belonging to Jamaat-e-Islami and Jamaat Ulema-i-Islam-F did not vote.

The bill is expected to be approved into law in one or two days and will be presented in the Senate for passage tomorrow.

A Pakistani editorial "A Say Day" earlier said that the 21st constitutional amendment will stand as a monument to the betrayal of the civilian, democratic cause.
