Pakistan's Foreign Office on Thursday claimed that India has accumulated a stockpile of nuclear weapons which has the potential to undermine the strategic balance of power in the South Asian region.
The Dawn quoted Foreign Office (FO) spokesman Nafees Zakaria as claiming that "India has also built a secret nuclear city", and has been conducting tests on intercontinental missiles.
However, he followed up this charge against New Delhi by saying that "Pakistan remains committed to the principles of peaceful existence with all of its neighbours, including India."
A Institute of Strategic Studies Islamabad study last year had reportedly indicated that India has sufficient material and the technical capacity to produce between 356 and 492 nuclear bombs.
Earlier this week, Pakistan said it wants India to bring its entire civilian nuclear programme under the safeguards laid out by the International Atomic Energy Commission (IAEC).
