The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has reportedly issued a show-cause notice to veteran all-rounder Shahid Afridi for 'interacting with the media without prior permission'.
Afridi had slammed his teammates in front of the media for their poor performances in the World Twenty20 and blamed the batsmen for the defeat against West Indies, adding that he would accept the captaincy as a challenge if it was offered.
According to The Nation, sources said that Afridi has replied to the notice by saying that he was merely responding to a question posed by a reporter and that his reply was taken out of context, adding that he had no obsession with captaincy.
Confirming that the PCB has sought an explanation from Afridi for his statements given to the media on his return from Bangladesh, an official however, claimed that the PCB had not yet received Afridi's reply.
However, PCB chairman Najam Sethi believes Afridi might have been pushed by media for such a statement, although he too reprimanded the player for speaking to the media.
