Union Parliamentary Affairs Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu on Thursday dubbed the event at Delhi's Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) as extremely serious incident and said those who are unnecessarily bringing bad name to the varsity should be segregated and isolated.

"Whoever is innocent will not be touched. The law will take its own course. It's a very serious incident. We cannot accept such threat to the unity and integrity of the country and it is only done by handful of people and not by all universities and not by students from all... They are unnecessarily bringing bad name to the university and, therefore, they should be segregated and isolated," Naidu told ANI.

He further said the government is very determined to take strong action against those who are actually responsible for organising meetings and raising such slogans.

JNU students' union president Kanhaiya Kumar has been sent to Tihar Jail and kept in a separate cell. The concerned jail authorities have sounded a high security alert inside the prison complex and are keeping a round-the-clock watch for Kanhaiya's safety.

Kanhaiya, who was arrested by the Delhi Police last Friday and has been booked under sedition charge in connection with an event at JNU where anti-national slogans were raised, was yesterday remanded to judicial custody till March 2.
