The Premier League has warned football fans that sharing goals online is against the law, discouraging fans from posting them on social networking sites like Vine and Twitter.

During the World Cup football fanatics had shared everything online, generating thousands of animated GIFs and Vines of World Cup goals, which had left FIFA less impressed. The world football governing body had started cracking such posts down to remove them.

Premier League is intending to do the same and the league's director of communications Dan Johnson has warned soccer fans that sharing goals online is against the law. He said that it is a breach of copyright and they would discourage fans from doing it, The Verge reported.

Johnson said that they are developing technologies like GIF crawlers, Vine crawlers, working with Twitter to look to curtail such activity. The crawlers would presumably hunt for popular Vines and submit requests for the material to be removed automatically.

FIFA had been quick to react during the World Cup, but it's not clear if the Premier League, a much smaller organization, will produce similar results or be able to battle how quickly goals are shared, the report added.
