The railway authorities in Hyderabad have doubled the platform ticket at some major railway stations for a week to reduce the congestion during the festival season.
To regulate the entry of non-travelling public into major railway stations like Secunderabad, the South Central Railway has announced to hike the price of platform tickets at Secunderabad railway station from Rs 10 to Rs 20 between January 11 and 17.
A traveler told ANI, "I am traveling from Secunderabad. As the platform tickets have increased the crowd has been reduced. The unnecessary people are not wandering on the platforms."
While another person who was present at the station said, "I came here to pick my wife. I would not be here for more than 20 minutes but still am paying Rs 20. It would be better if they charge on basis of hours, for example, Rs 10 for one hour or anything as such."
By hiking the platform ticket rates, the officials hope that it will help to regulate the flow of people and avoid inconvenience by ensuring decongestion of the platforms.
Railway Protection Force (RPF) inspector Raja Gopal Reddy of Secunderabad railway station said, "The main intention behind increasing the platform ticket rates is to avoid unnecessary public and causes congestion inside the station and also the traffic outside the station. We have made the tight security where the constables will stop the public who are not going to travel.
