Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday extended his condolences to the family of former Maharashtra home minister RR Patil.
The official twitter handle of the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) tweeted Prime Minister Modi's condolences.
"My thoughts are with Shri RR Patil's family. Am saddened to know of his demise, which leaves a void in Maharashtra politics: PM @narendramodi," it posted.
Earlier in the day, Patil, who reportedly suffered from oral cancer and was receiving regular chemotherapy for the same, had breathed his last at the Lilavati Hospital in Mumbai after suffering multiple organ failure.
Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, on learning of Patil's demise, announced a state funeral for the NCP leader.
