Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi on Tuesday said that if his party comes in power in Gujarat then it will work for the upliftment of farmers and weaker sections of the society.
Gandhi while addressing the gathering said that Prime Minister Narendra Modi's 'Gujarat model' has failed.
"If the Congress Party forms the government in the upcoming polls in Gujarat, it will work for the interest of farmers, workers, and weaker sections of the society. Modiji's Gujarat model has failed. We need old Gujarat model of Amul, which aims for development of all," Rahul Gandhi said while addressing public in Tankara.
Gandhi also said that dairy farmers are not getting higher prices for milk, claiming that the government cares only for big businesses.
"We listen to each and everyone clearly and accordingly we make policies. It's all about listening to the public but the BJP never listens to anyone because they believe that they know everything already. They focus on marketing and making speeches but no productive work is seen in return," Gandhi asserted.
The Gandhi scion also raised the issue of unemployment and farmers' plight in the farm-rich belt of the state, which is dominated by Patidars who have been demanding reservation in government jobs and education under the other backward classes (OBC) category.
Gandhi is on a three-day poll campaign Navsarjan tour of Gujarat and is scheduled to visit Khodaldham, the pilgrimage place for influential Leuva Patidars.
