PM Modi sounds poll bugle in Haryana, appeals for Congress-free state

Addressing his first rally in Karnal ahead of the Haryana Assembly polls, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday appealed for a Congress-free state and a clear majority for the BJP.

"Today, I have kick-started the poll campaign from the land of 'Daan veer Karan'. Whenever I come to Haryana it feels as if I have come home. I have learnt a lot here. The polls will determine Haryana's future, to reach you better there must be no obstacle, you must give clear majority to BJP," said Prime Minister Modi.

Lashing out at the Congress Party, which has been ruling Haryana for a decade, the Prime Minister said, "Those who did nothing in the last 60 years they are asking for a report card of my work in the last few months. It was extremely tough to go to Kailash Mansarovar for Yatra, we convinced China to open a second route. The Congress party did nothing in 60 years but we got a new road opened."

"The Congress party is spreading lies, by telling people that the Government of India has stopped the export of Basmati rice. Whereas the actual truth is that in Haryana, Congress has imposed 4 percent tax," the Prime Minister added.

He also appreciated the voters for bringing the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to power with a clear majority in the Lok Sabha elections and said that they should vote for the party in a similar fashion in the upcoming Haryana Assembly polls.

"The world is talking about India, this isn't my magic, but it is because of the people who voted for absolute majority at the Centre. If you want Haryana to develop, you will need a Congress-Mukt (free) Haryana. If you want me to serve you, you must give a stable government to Haryana, give me an opportunity to work for development here," Prime Minister Narendra Modi said.

Pressing upon the need for a neat and clean Haryana, he added, "In the ongoing trend of Wi-Fi, shouldn't our cities and towns in Haryana be clean? I want to work towards waste water management in 500 areas in Haryana and make smart cities in the state."

He also recalled the initiatives taken by his government for the welfare of the poor saying that they initiated the Prime Minister 'Krishi Sinchai Yojana' and 'Jan Dhan Yojana' for the farmers and the poor.

Today's rally in Karnal was one of the ten rallies scheduled to be addressed by Prime Minister Modi before the elections for the 90-member Haryana Legislative Assembly are held on October 15.
