Priyanka campaigns for Sonia Gandhi in Raebareli

Priyanka Gandhi, on Wednesday appealed to people to vote for the ideology which unites people followed by the Congress, as she campaigns in Raebareli constituency of Uttar Pradesh for her mother, Sonia Gandhi.

"Our ideology, the Congress party's ideology, is about uniting people. We work for the unity of the nation. The ideology of the opposition party is all about centralisation of power; they want to promote a few people and neglect the rest," she said.

Sonia Gandhi filed her nomination for the forthcoming general elections from the longtime stronghold of the Nehru- Gandhi family, Rae Bareli, on April 2.

Priyanka Gandhi expressed her hope that people of the constituency would re-elect Sonia Gandhi who has worked hard for their welfare through all these years.

"Soniaji has worked for your welfare with all her heart and soul. She loves all of you and this place. This was the land of duty for Indira Gandhi. She (Sonia Gandhi) walks shoulder to shoulder with you and works for your welfare. Welfare work never comes to a halt, the more it is done, the more scope appears for better development. It has been a long time. You have been with Sonia Gandhi for the last 10 years and in future also, I am sure you will decide to elect her again," she said.

The Nehru-Gandhi family has been in a war of words lately with Priyanka Gandhi accusing her estranged cousin and BJP leader Varun Gandhi of having deviated from the correct path and appealing to people to vote sensibly. Varun retaliated without directly naming her by saying that his quietness and large- heartedness must be not be construed as a sign of weakness.

Sonia Gandhi is hoping for a fourth win from the constituency.
