Russian President Vladimir Putin will meet his U.S. counterpart Donald Trump on the sidelines of the G-20 summit in July in Hamburg, Germany.
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov made the announcement following his talks with the U.S. President yesterday, reports TASS news agency.
Lavrov also noted that he and the U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson would consider issues to be discussed by the two countries' leaders at their meeting scheduled for July.
"The presidents have held a telephone conversation recently, they confirmed their intention to meet on the sidelines of the G20 summit in July," said Lavrov said following his meetings with both Tillerson and Trump.
Detailing his talks with the U.S. officials Lvvrov said, "Today, Rex and I discussed the ways to advance the agenda, which includes the Syrian issue, so that we could come up with some tangible decisions before the presidents meet."
The Kremlin-Washington relations significantly deteriorated during the last U.S. regime as former president Barack Obama passed many anti-Russia sanctions.
Meanwhile, the new administration has been beleaguered over its Russia connection. Also, Trump has expressed desire to improve ties with Russia.
In their May 2, telephone conversation, Putin and Trump had discussed a number of pressing issues related to bilateral cooperation, including the prospects for coordinating steps in the fight against terrorism in Syria and solving the North Korea issue.
