Congress vice president Rahul Gandhi on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Prime Minister Narendra Modi, asking him to bring back former IPL chief Lalit Modi to face the law.
"It is a very simple issue, there are two networks in IPL. One which youth of country see: batting, bowling, fielding. The other is Lalit Modi," Rahul said.
"Yesterday, Arun Jaitley ji and Sushma ji protected this corruption network... Modi ji ran away during the Land Ordinance issue. Now there is a chance, bring back Lalit Modi," he added.
The Congress scion further accused the government of imposing mediocrity on the country, and said he was "here to defend this country from the RSS".
"When your work clashes with the views of RSS, your mouth will be shut, we are protecting you, remember that," said Rahul.
"I am here to defend freedom of people. The way this country is heading, the media will not be able to function. You people have been banned, notices have been sent to three channels, why, because you are doing your work," he added.
Rahul also sought to counter the charges raked up by External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj in the Parliament, saying, "The judicial system of India has cleared Rajiv Gandhi. They bring this up again and again, makes no difference to me."
A feisty Sushma Swaraj had yesterday trained her guns on the Congress Party, specifically on its president Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi, to explain and justify the past alleged misdemeanors of the "First Family" and the party before targeting her on Lalit Gate.
