Expressing concern over the clashes that broke out in Jammu and Kashmir's Kishtwar District after Eid prayers today, Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) President Rajnath Singh spoke to Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh, who assured him that proper and effective action will be taken to control the situation.
"After taking note of the entire situation and expressing concern, national president Rajnath Singh spoke to the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister assured him that he will bring effective control over the situation and if required the army will also be deployed there," said BJP spokesperson Sudhanshu Trivedi.
"As per the latest information available with us, the situation is not under control as of now. But we believe that the Prime Minister will take proper and effective action to get control over the situation as assured to our national president," he added.
Curfew was imposed and Army called out in Kishtwar district earlier in the day following clashes between people belonging to two communities.
At least 15 people were injured in the clashes that broke out in Kuleed area and soon spread in the district. Curfew has been imposed in the area as of now.
Personnel of the state police and Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) were rushed to the area after the clashes. They used batons and teargas besides firing in the air to disperse the warring mobs gathered in various parts of the district.
Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah has directed senior state and civil officials to take stock of the situation.
