Rio Olympics: Indian eves thrashed 3-0 by Great Britain in second pool game

The Indian women's hockey team, who produced a spirited performance to eke out a 2-2 draw against Japan in their opening game, failed to continue their resurgence as they suffered a 3-0 defeat at the hands of Great Britain in their second fixture of Pool B at the Rio Olympics here.

The Indian eves successfully managed to fend off a dominating Britain to end the first quarter with scores level at 0-0, but that was short lived as the menacing opponents took the lead via Giselle Ansley's drag flick in the 24th minute before Nicola White doubled their lead two minutes later.

The third quarter also saw the Indian eves falter with Alex Danson scoring right after the break to extend the scoreline 3-0 for Great Britain, which remained unchanged at the end of the final whistle.

The Sushila Chanu-led side will next take on Australia and will need to secure at least one win and one more draw to progress through to the quarterfinals.

Earlier, the Indian eves put up a brave front to comeback strongly after a 0-2 deficit in the first half against Japan in their historic appearance at the Olympic Games, 36 years after they first played in the Moscow Olympics.
