SC criticizes govt. for delay in compensation to farmers

The Supreme Court has critcised the Centre for delaying the payment of compensation to farmers for the land acquired from them.

The court was hearing an appeal over granting of compensation to farmers on land acquisition in cantonment areas in Punjab.

The apex court criticized the government for filing appeals in several matters, particularly on issues relating to compensation to farmers.

The court also expressed its displeasure over the Centre not coming up to the expectations in providing enough infrastructures for the functioning of tribunals.
