In a major setback to BCCI President N. Srinivasan, the Supreme Court on Monday proposed the constitution of a new three-member panel to probe allegations made in connection with a spot-fixing scandal that took place during the sixth edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL).

The apex court has proposed the setting up of a three-member panel headed by former Punjab and Haryana High Court chief justice Mukul Mudgal to probe the spot-fixing scandal.

The court deferred the hearing on the PIL filed against Srinivasan for Tuesday, asking both the BCCI and the Cricket Association of Bihar (CAB) to present their views before the new committee.

Srinivasan was elected unopposed as president of the BCCI for a third term in the cricket board's AGM on September 29. The apex court allowed Srinivasan to contest the election, but said he cannot discharge his duties.

The CAB, which is not recognised by the BCCI, had moved to the Supreme Court on September 23, seeking to restrain N. Srinivasan from getting re-elected to the top-post because of his connection to Gurunath Meiyappan, his son-in-law, who is presently facing corruption charges in connection with the sixth edition of the IPL.
