The Supreme Court on Thursday recalled its earlier order appointing Justice Virendra Singh as the Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh.
An apex court bench led by Justice Ranjan Gogoi appointed Justice Sanjay Mishra, another former judge of the Allahabad High Court, as the Lokayukta.
"The Supreme Court after reviewing all the information that was provided to it withdrew the name of Justice Virendra Singh and appointed Sanjay Mishra as the new Lokayukta of Uttar Pradesh," Shiv Kumar Tripathy, an advocate, told the media here.

The apex court termed the inability of functionaries like Chief Minister and Chief Justice of the High Court to arrive at a name for the Lokayukta's post as 'unfortunate'.
