An encounter was on between security forces and militants in the Handwara area of Kupwara District on Tuesday.
Media reports said the encounter had begun in the wake of a search operation launched last night by the joint team of the police and army.
Militants hiding in the area fired upon the search party early this morning.
Firing was going on when reports last came in. However, no causality has been reported so far.
