Seven militants were killed in a gun battle with security forces in Dardpora forests of Lolab valley in Jammu and Kashmir's Kupwara district last evening.

The operation was launched after intelligence inputs were received about the presence of militants in the area.

A joint team of the police and 18 Rashtriya Rifles of the Army launched an operation to zero in on the hiding militants. The militants in retaliation fired upon security forces triggering a gunfight which lasted several hours.

Further details are awaited.
