Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has said that his country wants to resolve the Kashmir issue and establish peace with India based on the U.N. resolutions.

Addressing a joint press conference with visiting U.N.ecretary General Ban Ki-Moon here, Sharif said he had raised and discussed the Kashmir issue with the latter, and it was agreed that both countries need to take steps to de-escalate tensions in the region.

According to Radio Pakistan, Sharif expressed his worries on the tense situation prevailing on the Line of Control (LoC) after August 6 cross-border ceas-fire violation.

Sharif also said that he had reached an agreement with the U.N. Secretary General to further strengthen the partnership between his country and the world body.

On his part, Ban Ki Moon said the U.N. will continue to help Pakistan in the war against terrorism.

He further said that Pakistan has sacrificed more lives in the war of terrorism.

He congratulated the country on the occasion of its 67th Independence Day, and also said that Pakistan has been one of the largest contributors to U.N. peacekeeping operations.
