A Shiv Sena leader, Ramesh Jadhav, was allegedly stabbed to death by five persons, who were reportedly misbehaving with a woman, in Malad on Tuesday.
Police have held three of the five accused, while the search is still on to nab the other two accused.
The incident led to protests by Shiv Sena leaders and workers.
"These accused had also attacked a school student earlier. The entire family of Ramesh Jadhav is now Shiv Sena's responsibility," said Vinod Ghosalkar, a Shiv Sena leader.
Meanwhile, Mumbai Police Commissioner Rakesh Maria said, "We have arrested three people in this case, while we are looking for the other two accused. The Crime branch has also joined in the investigation. The investigation is on and after the two other accused are arrested, the real motive behind the crime would become apparent.
