West Indies legend Garfield Sobers believes that the cash-rich T20 tournaments have destroyed his country's Test cricket by luring players with large amount of money.
The 79-year-old, who is a chief guest at the second Test between hosts Sri Lanka and West Indies starting in Colombo today, said that T20 tournament, particularly IPL, has taken a toll on the longest-format of the game,Sport 24 reported.
Sobers, however, said that he can't really blame West Indies players who come from humble background as the T20 tournament is a good opportunity for them to make money.
Expressing his views on playing day and night Test matches, Sobers affirmed that he is completely in favour of this format and hopes that it would also attract some of the players.
Describing ODIs as 'quite good', the former cricketer said that he didn't have any objection to the 50-over matches.
The West Indies, who have once dominated world cricket, are only above Bangladesh in the league table of regular Test playing nations.
