Sonowal takes charge as Assam BJP chief

Union sports Minister Sarbananda Sonowal assumed charge as Assam Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president here on Saturday.

He thanked BJP president Amit Shah for entrusting him with the responsibility, adding that 2016 Assam Assembly elections were his main target.

"With the support of people of Assam we believe that we can bring changes...2016 elections is our main target. We have to form BJP government here. All workers will work together to win trust and confidence of people of Assam," he told ANI.

Sonowal has replaced Siddhartha Bhattacharyya as state BJP chief while the latter has been appointed national spokesman in charge of the Northeastern region.
