Sony announces name for virtual reality headset

Japanese company Sony has announced the name of its virtual reality headset, which will now be called PlayStation VR.

According to the Verge, earlier the hardware was called 'Project Morpheus'. The company did not give any further details.

PlayStation VR will compete with virtual reality headsets from a number of manufacturers, including Facebook's Oculus Rift and the Vive, developed by HTC and Valve.

Sony has not yet announced pricing or the specific launch date for PlayStation VR, but had previously stated it will be out in 2016.
