People in Jammu and Kashmir's Drass area have been long demanding for better healthcare facilities and their wishes seem to come true as the medical facilities at Sub-District Hospital have improved to a large extent.
Earlier, even for minor problems, patients were forced to head to Srinagar or to Kargil hospitals, but now the situation has changed.
Dr. Ghulam Afzal, Drass Block Medical Officer, tells ANI that nowadays, all facilities are being provided at this sub district hospital like X -Rays, ECG, blood tests are other facilities.
"Almost 75-80 percent of medicines that we prescribe are available here," said.
"OPDs are also operational. All types of medicines including life saving drugs are being provided to patients free of cost and as of now no surgeon is posted here, but we have medical officers posted here," he added.
"This has really benefited the people of Drass as initially it was a sub-center and no specialized doctor was available and people had to go to far off places to get oneself treated," said a patient Shabir Ahmad.
In order to enhance more facilities, the state government has brought in 200 new beds and very soon, a new hospital would be inaugurated which will be equipped with latest and modern medical facilities.
Drass is one of the remote and backward areas of the state as it remains cut-off from the rest of the world for almost six to eight months due to heavy snowfall.
